Studio Rules & Regulations

The Commercial Music program at FAU maintains five studios that are for the exclusive use of its students as well as mobile recording equipment. These include the Sequencing Lab (AL 348), Studio A (AL-134/133) Studio B (AL-184), Studio C and Studio D. The following rules apply to all studios, lab, and to recordings made using FAU gear and equipment.

  • Access to studios requires student be registered for this class or such other classes in which a recording project has been assigned. If a student drops or withdraws from the class, studio use is suspended for the semester.

  • No food or drink allowed in the studios and lab.

  • Students are not allowed to remove any piece of equipment from a studio (this includes cables and headphones). Violations of this policy will be strictly enforced and dealt with.

  • No outside or personal projects are allowed in any of the studios. Studio use is limited to the realization of academic projects of classes that require its use.

  • Students are not allowed to use any recorded element (in whole or in part) of any project or recording for commercial purposes or for any other purposes (whether or not such purposes are commercial in nature) without first obtaining written consent from the instructor. Without limiting the foregoing, students are prohibited from posting or uploading or otherwise distributing any sound and/or video (or A/V) file(s) or program(s) to the Internet or for satellite transmission or to the “Cloud” or through any other technology now existing or hereafter devised without first obtaining the instructor’s written permission.  Violations to this policy will be strictly dealt with.

  • Students are not allowed to download any software on any of the computers or modify an existing setup without prior authorization from the instructor.

  • To access studios, you will need an Owl card. Access to studios is limited to the academic semester, unless special permission is given by the instructor and approved by the music department chair and the dean.

  • If you encounter a problem in the studio (software not working, hardware not working, system malfunction, cables missing, etc.) or if you break something you are required to report the problem in AH 111.

  • If a piece of gear is missing you must “Gripe” it immediately and call the university police at 561-297-3500 OR report problem in AH 111.

 

Booking Policy for Studios A, B, C, and D

  • Only Licensed engineers, are allowed to book Studios A and B. An exemption for Studio B is being made for SR1, SR2 and students enrolled in Prof. Zager’s courses and Computer Music Sequencing class.

  • Studio A and Studio B must be booked before use.  

  • DO NOT change, modify, or alter any system without prior written permission from the instructor. 

  • Before the session begins, you are required to submit signed Session Player agreements for all musicians involved in a recording session to the commercial music office. If you fail to turn in the signed paperwork during this time frame you will lose booking privileges for two weeks. 

  • Studio C is for use by Recording Services assigned engineers only. No one else is allowed in Studio C at any time. 

  • Studio D is for the exclusive use of Live Sound Reinforcement students.

 

WARNING! LOUD MUSIC (AMPLIFIED OR ACOUSTIC) CAN LEAD TO PERMANENT HEARING LOSS.

  • Although many factors contribute to hearing loss (exposure time, volume, decibel levels, proximity to sources, hereditary predisposition, etc.) we urge you to wear hearing protection and to seek proper diagnosis & guidance from a licensed audiologist.
